TRUE is a video showing footage of engravings made by female shepherds
in forests in Sweden. The engravings are made in the 1700–century to early 2000–century and consists of dates, names, longer messages and abstract symbols, often ending with the word “TRUE”. The footage is accompanied by an audio track where a voice is reading the messages on the trunks as well as responding to them by excerpts of other texts such as paragraphs from the lecture “Useful Work versus Useless Toil” by Williams Morris, given in 1884. The project is part of a longer research on hidden and secret spaces for writing.
